Turf Care!

Nowadays, many landscape owners are using artificial turf in their landscape design. Having artificial turf can be an easy way to have that beautiful grass look without all the headaches.  There are still, however, some tips and tricks to keep in mind to keep your turf looking its best.

First off, hosing the surface occasionally (especially in the absence of rain) will help get rid of pollutants and pollens that have collected onto the surface of grass blades. Synthetic lawns are designed to facilitate superior drainage, so there’s no need to worry about ending up with a soggy lawn after you give it a rinse. Second, watch for stains. The quicker you spot a new stain the easier it’ll be to get rid of it.  You should think of your new lawn like the floors or carpets in your home.  It’s easier to clean up a mess as soon as it happens, instead of allowing a stain to soak in. When it comes to cleaning up spots in your landscape turf, regular household cleaners should do the trick, but if for some reason it does not, you can use turf grease removers.

A third thing to keep in mind when keeping your landscape looking its best is to maintain your artificial turf by replacing high-traffic patches. This is where your family or pets walk across the lawn most and or where your pets do most of their “business.” Moderate wear and tear in high-traffic areas is normal, but you don’t have to sacrifice the overall aesthetic of your landscape for these small sections. A professional can quickly and easily replace high-traffic sections to make your yard look brand new again.

Speaking of where your pets do their “business,” one of the more important ways to keep your turf and landscape looking its best is to pick up pet waste quickly. Unless you live in an area with frequent rainfall, you’ll also want to make sure to hose down the surface every other day.

Lastly, you can easily perk up your lawn and make it look brand new again with a tool designed for artificial turf. You can revive matted fibers by brushing them in the opposite direction to regain more depth and height.
