Modern landscape design is more than clean lines — it creates outdoor spaces that are both visually striking
and highly functional. This front-yard transformation combines bold geometric forms, contemporary
materials, and a thoughtfully curated plant palette to enhance curb appeal while delivering a low-
maintenance landscape that can be enjoyed year-round.
Initial Client Vision
- The client wished for a clean, modern design that is beautiful yet manageable.
- Corten steel flower beds for additional height.
- Succulents for texture and visual appeal as well as reflecting the unique Texas landscape.
Design Concept
Contemporary Front-Yard Landscape Design Focused Structure, Simplicity, and Year-Round Appeal
- Strong geometric forms and organized planting beds establish a clean, modern aesthetic that
complements the residence architecture. - Layered landscape design combines ornamental grasses, textured succulents, evergreen shrubs, and
specimen trees to create visual depth and year-round interest. - A curated plant palette featuring Agave, Yucca, Oakleaf Holly, Eagleston Holly, Japanese Maples, Blue
Atlas Cedars, and Little Gem Magnolia provide a balance of structure, texture, and seasonal color. - Decorative Corten steel planters and edging introduce contemporary design elements while creating
clear separation between planting zones and hardscape areas. - Large-format stone walkways enhance pedestrian circulation and reinforce the modern character of
the design. - Crushed white marble, decorative river rock, and black gravel create visual contrast and reduce
maintenance requirements while highlighting key landscape features. - Strategic landscape lighting provides evening ambiance while accentuating specimen trees,
architectural plants, and focal points throughout the property. - Reduced lawn areas allow greater emphasis on planting design and hardscape features while
maintaining an inviting, open appearance.
Build Process + Challenges
- The project began with site preparation, grading, and selective removal of existing landscape
elements to create a clean foundation for the new design. - Existing trees were carefully evaluated, with select specimens preserved to maintain maturity and
provide long-term shade and structure within the landscape. - Installation of steel edging, decorative planters, stone walkways, and hardscape features established
the framework of the design before planting commenced. - Multiple decorative aggregate materials, including crushed marble, river rock, and specialty gravels,
were carefully integrated to create visual interest while maintaining a cohesive appearance. - Irrigation and landscape lighting systems were installed to support plant health and extend the
enjoyment of the landscape into the evening hours. - The final phase focused on installing the diverse plant palette, balancing evergreen structure with
seasonal accents to create a polished and cohesive streetscape.
Budget
- This project fell within our Front Yard Tier 3 pricing range of $75,000–$150,000+, and we
successfully delivered the project within the client’s budget while maintaining the quality and design
intent of the landscape.
